Hey y'all, I found an old bottle/junk dump near an 1890s homestead. I've passed through the area quite a few times and thought nothing of a large patch of rubble with broken glass, Once I decided to take a closer look I realized what it was.

I was looking through some of the glass and most of them were drinking cups and ornate plates. On the surface I also found a few buttons including A "Lee" jeans button, It was the original design from the 1800's and I also found the top of one of those old paint tubes. The brand is "Devoe and Raynolds Co." And it also dates back to the 1800's.

Anyway, my question is: How do I look through all of this rubble for goodies? I would normally go back with my Garrett and do some detecting, but there is so much Iron in the ground it would be impossible to find anything. What I'm thinking is to use one of those sifter boxes and look through the material. Does anyone have better Ideas?

Here are the finds BTW (sorry for low quality)

Love that old "Lee" jeans button.
Are you able to make yourself a square box frame with screen on the bottom to sift through the stuff?
Start with larger screen holes , then work your way smaller a few sizes. It would be fun too. :icon_thumleft:
Congrats,

A patch of rubble with broken glass?! Oh man, I make a b line for those on sight and those are the places I typically can be found rooting around in. I always watch for signs of dumping grounds and have an eye for locating them, even very old and barely noticeable ones. One man's trash as they say. Look around for trash objects laying about, there may only be a few clues on the surface but go digging and whoa Nelly lol. Stumbled across a very old one earlier today in fact but I didn't have time to stop and look. Old homeless encampments and hobo bivouacs are prime searching grounds too. Sorry I'm ranting but they really are high yield spots for all kinds of goodies. Great finds! Maybe you should go back and search again later, there's probably more there, just start digging in any given spot. Nice! Just hearing about it makes me itchy to go hit a local one up. Dumping grounds are right gold mines in my opinion
