1887 & 1903 Indians and the end of my curse!

I got out this morning for a while, and decided to hit a forest that was the location of one of the first settlements in New Jersey. Well, the spot is very urban now and had so much trash that hunting was impossible, even with my sniper coil. So I decided to hit a wooded area closer to my house, which I first hunted years ago, and has been hit hard over the years, so I was not optimistic. I left the trails and finally found an old brick pile, and dug two Indians, one, a 1903 in nice shape with nice coloring, the other, an 1887 in such bad shape I was just glad to see a date.

In seven years of metal detecting I have found coins going back to the 1700's, but until today I had never found a coin older than 1902 in my own county! Well today I finally broke the curse with the beat up 1887 Indian Head found only a few miles from my home! ;D

Funny, I was in the same boat as you. I was traveling all over looking for an "old" area to find a pre-1900 coin, and I detected at a lot 1/2 mile from home and what do you know? 1888 indian head!

Just goes to show you,

great finds,

Ian

WTG Neil. So far the oldest coin I found by my house was a 1903 barber dime but I hope to break the 1800s mark this summer.

Congrats Neil. Now tape that IH to your detector. It's your good luck piece.
Way to go. Hope you find many more now.

Congrats on finding the IH's pre 1900 in your own county. I wouldn't mind having your curse with all the large coppers you find though (ha ha).

Great turn of the century an Indian red cent congratulation

Re: 1887 & 1903 Indians and the end of my curse!

Nice going. Sometimes that 1900 barrier can be a little tough. Some of the 1800's IH's here turn out pretty rough too.
