Hello all. Got out to an 1859 home today with a few buddies & man it was tough hunting. It has been hunted previously as well. I found an 1883 IH which I ruined by going against my own advice... I used the toothpick method which is fine & I recommend... BUT there was a lot of crud that I couldn't get off so I figured WTH, I'll try to remove the rest of the crud with hydrogen peroxide since everyone speaks highly of the method. I heated a bit to a boil in the microwave & left it in for 5 minutes. Now I have a dark, almost black coin & the date is barely legible (you can see the pic when I dug it)..:-(. Did I do something wrong? I should have left it alone but oh well, I've found some really nice IHs this year, can't complain. I'll just give this one to the landowner, he'll be happy to have it.
I also found this really cool little toy gun. I showed it to the landowner & it turns out it was his when he was a kid! After the club meeting Tuesday I will be returning it to him. He was thrilled I found it! Part of this hobby is giving back & sharing, gives you a good feeling.
I found this button as well. The back is really throwing me off. It appears to be a P on the face. Anyone know what this is or the age? Any help would be appreciated! I also found a 1920 wheatie, part if a razor & a spoon.
It was a great day to be out with some good friends. My buddy Hardy found a 1942 silver quarter, an awesome Snark lock & a 1937 dog tag. Thanks for looking & HH!
