I would venture to say it's a sterling silver (.925) medallion. Made blank on the back for engraving for some special event such as birthday, wedding, graduation, etc. The 1882 is just a gimmick to make it look similar to an 1882 Morgan silver dollar but with enough differences to keep from being accused of counterfeiting.

Thanks for your response Tieren. I think your right. When I look at the object under the scope it just doesn't look real. The edges are way to sharp and crisp for that year. I guess I will just add it to my silver collection. Thanks again.

Nice silver round, they call them! Worth about its weight in silver still cool to have in a silver collection. You are better off buying real morgan dollars in the long run.

HH!!

Actually a silver round is usually 1 oz. of .999 silver not .925 but still a cool find.
