Dang! Look at all those hand built wheels and wagons. We can't do that anymore.
 

Pretty incredible what those old time miners could do. Just walk through any western mines boom days cemetery and you'll see a lot of graves of young men not past the age of 25 buried under many a tombstone. I read about the ore haulers bringing loads of heavy silver ore out of the mountains around Leadville and it was described as one of the most dangerous jobs in the industry. Even more so than working underground. Even today many of the mine accident fatalgrams we'd review during the msha annual refreshers would involve a fatality of a employee working in a haulage function.
