Hey Guys - it's been a LOOOOONG time since I've been on TNET but I HAD to share this one. It is one of my all time favorite coins and I have never found or even seen one dug so I am ecstatic here!
Here's the story ... so I headed out with a buddy for Fathers Day to do some quick detecting. I had a small window as my wife was working on some homework for her class. It was a little last minute and we weren't sure where to even go as all of the fields are planted now. But we ended up at a local park and spent about 2 hours detecting it before my buddy had to leave. He found a nice silver ring at this park but I had completely struck out. So I started to head home and just called my wife to checkin, she was still working on her stuff so I figured what the heck - I grabbed something to eat quick and headed to another park I knew.
I ended up at an old park that used to be a fair grounds in the late 1800's. It's produced some nice coins in the last year but has really been picked clean as of late so I wasn't expecting much. Upon arrival I immediately two things: the parked was PACKED with people for some softball games & a bunch of the old shrubs and trees at the main entrance had been cut back. I don't mind people when detecting but there was a LOT, the softball fields were far enough away though I figured no one would bother me so I went right to entrance and started detecting.
I searched for about 10 minutes and got a perfect tone on my new Minelab EQ800 - the ground was rock hard but as I dug down I I flipped a bunch of direct over and there is was ... It was literally 3" down in the fresh dirt and when I saw it laying in there - I paused for about 3 seconds not believeing what I was looking at a big beautiful eagle staring up at me. I yelled "NO WAAAAY??!!" and grabbed it. Got my phone out and started texted my buddies ... I detected for another 20 mins not finding anything more but noticed the games were done and everyone was getting in their cars to leave. Ecstatic with my find and seeing the line of cars heading towards my the entrance I called it a day.
So I found one coin today and it's a dream coin for me - an 1875-CC Seated Half Dollar in great condition, what a great fathers day hunt !!!
