Got out for an hour or so today. It was hot the bugs were bad and the ferns were 3 feet tall. I finally found a little 10x10 area near the foundation I was on in the spring (found a 1917 standing quarter not far from where I was) first I found a button with a little eagle on it but can't get a good enough photo then a few pieces of lead and as i was about to leave I got another button that's says superfine extra rich with a B on both sides. Went over the hole again and it was still hitting. So I grabbed a handful of dirt and this 1872 half dime came out. First half dime for me so I was pretty excited. Is there anyway to get the black off?

Sweet! Half dime!

A half dime is very high on my "want list". Haven't gotten one yet.

Love to see the eagle button.

Where are you?

If you aren't that worried about devaluing it, My son cleans rosies's with bakiing soda and a tooth brush. They come out looking like brand new.

Nice! Those little guys are one of the hardest types to find. As for cleaning, you don't want to use anything abrasive but something like Jewelluster works very well. It's a tarnish dip that you can get at most coins shops or jewelry stores. If the tarnish is even and not detracting, you may want to leave it the way it is if it has any collector value. Sometimes cleaned coins are worth less than ones in "as-is" condition. You might want to get an opinion from a local coin expert who can actually see the coin.
