Found an 1871 Canadian dime at an old homesite a few years back. Just want to know if it may have any value. It's in good condition. The lettering on the front is really good. The bust is worn with no detail. The back has some wear with little to no detail on the crown and leaves. The date is very legible. Thanks for any info.

There are two types: 1871 (plain) and 1871 H. The 'plain' had a mintage of 800k; the 'H' 1,870k. The coin weighs 2.324 grams and is composed of 0.925 silver (0.0691 oz ASW). Several years ago the values of both types was the same in VG-8: $20 in VG-8 ; and about $35 in F-12. Those values were retail, but today may be the wholesale values--just guessing.
Don....

There are two varieties of the 1871 dime. One has an "H" for "Heaton."
Both are listed as Krause#3. (Second edition. 1999)
The non "H" is $15=VG8, $30=F12, $70=VF20, $125=XF40, $325=MS60.
The "H" variety is $18=VG8, $32.50=F12, $70=VF20, $125=XF40, $450=MS60.

Best,
Scott

PS. Nice Find!

You beat me again, Don!

Best,

The values for the 1871 dime increased according to my 2010 Krause book:

Non H- $22=VG8, $40=F12, $90=VF20, $175=XF40, $500=MS60
H- $30=VG8, $60=F12, $95=VF20, $200=XF40, $550=MS60
