Had a few hours yesterday and got a faint single on the copper. It was as deep as the cw relics but was totally incased in crud. I figured toast. Dug a few more targets nothing great but did get into an old trash pile and got a few bottles.
Threw the coin in olive oil and then remembered Don N SJ had made a post on cleaning with peroxide so I tried that. I never in my life thought it would even be recognizable but it came out decent for what it was. Slightly damaged but readable Indian Head. Here was his post on cleaning. Thanks Don.

Cleaned as good as it is going to get...

The bottles were a Lysol, a Castoria, a Milk of Magnesia, and a 3 in 1 oil ( everything a person could need ). Also had a pile of old medicine bottles 1920's...

Hey TnMtns,

Nice hunt, sir. I do like that little blue MoM. Does it have a patent date?

Cheers, sir.

That's the first iteration of those little blue guys, I do believe.

Yep, it sure did a fine clean up! Very nice save indeed!

I've noticed that one develops a sense for coins that will lend themselves to being cleaned. Can't exactly explain it, but some, one just sees certain coins that will be good candidates. Some, of course, toast. Oh well. But, some, well they're like yours.

Nice!

Well that is cool. I may have some more. I thought the 3 in 1 oil was kinda neat. It is the second one of those I have. One day i am going to clean and get out all my bottles. I like digging them they are just hard to store and display. Thanks Serf for the info.
