One year and a month ago I was lucky enough to find one of these 1864 pennies in my yard. This time I was hunting a permission property and found a few wheats, and a couple of Indian head pennies. I was very happy to find an 1864 and I reread about this year having three varieties made...The front isn’t in the greatest shape, but I am thinking (or maybe just wishful seeing) there may be a hint of an “L” in the ribbon coming down near the hair..and the front of the neck looks a bit more pointed than rounded.

It is fun hunting for relics and also interesting to clean, document, and research the finds. How did I not know about this hobby while growing up LOL. In “retirement” it has been a joy.

Imagine this was minted just as the Civil War was moving towards its end...And only months before President Lincoln’s assassination [emoji22].

I always wonder who dropped a coin and how long ago and did they miss it...etc.

Here are some of the other finds..ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1594957573.774669.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1594957660.765914.webp.
The other IHP was an 1886 and was near the 1864.

This hobby works pretty well for the Covid-19 isolation practice. How many of us were ahead of the times already enjoying isolating with our coil and headphones before this world changing event happened LOL!
Happy hunting!

Underwonder,

Very nice hunt, you found a nice variety of targets in addition to your IHP - and it is always nice to find silver. Question, are you sure your IHP is a 1864, it looks to be a 1894 to me - maybe it is time I get new glasses, lol.

Good luck with your hunts.

Walt

1894 to me too

Well done !

And yes - looks like 1894 from here too !

looks like 1894.

Nonetheless congrats!

YIKES, Walt (and others)..1894 1894 1894 INDEED!
I don’t know when I did the “unsee” of this, clearly minted 1894 not 1864 penny. I don’t know how to change the title of the post...I was so focused on looking for the “L” LOL. It’s a bit embarrassing! Thanks for the kind words and gentle correction!

Well, 1894 history not as exciting but in 1894 Congress passed the first graduated income tax..

Anyway, I stand corrected. [emoji6]

looks like 1894.

Nonetheless congrats!

Thank you, catpepper..and, yes it is...I am disappointed and don’t know how I did not see that. It clearly is 1894.

Dyslexics of America, Untie! :tongue3:

The "Eyes" have it. I also see a '94. Still a nice find on the Indians.

Very Nice!!! The Indian is in great shape!!! Congrats!!!

I'm always happy to see an Indian Head come up no matter the year. Nice find!

Sorry...no L with 1894. I can just imagine all the blood draining from your head when the posts were saying 1894 and you look and see it for yourself! No worries; I have screwed up much worse!

Oh, nice find!

Well I hope that is the L version.

Nope..LOL not since I incorrectly read the date....1894. Although the quarter was a 1964...LOL Thanks for the well wishes.
