Hey all -

Alright, so I found this 1864 Indian Head a few months ago. Unlike the other IH's I found at this same farm, this one came out pretty clean with great details. I heard the 1864 has a bronze variety (might explain the cleaner, darker patina), and a rarer one with an 'L' on the ribbon, but I can't for the life of me see whether or not it has it.

Maybe one of you has a better eye? Or can give me some advice on how to take better close-up photos?

Thanks in advance!

L is for Longacre, the designer and should be right here---1864L_cent_closeup l ribbon.jpg

I believe it is the "L" variety, you can also tell by the pointed tip of the bust.

the word 'liberty' on the head band is really full and sharp. That coin was probably in AU condition when it was dropped. But I can't tell if it's the 'L' version. Awesome find though!

Yeah it is. Probably has remained lost for a 140 to 150 years I'm thinking?

Thanks for the info everyone! YES, it's got the 'L'. Just took a pic where I can see it:

I wonder what condition this would be considered? It's got super-sharp details, the only issues are some tiny sediment and some chipping on the edges.

Thanks again for the help! Didn't know about the pointed bust, which even if I couldn't see the 'L' it would make it the 'L' variety anyway.
