I have a 1864 Indian head cent and I cant figure out if it is copper nickel or bronze. It is not the L variety so I can rule that out. I am leaning towards copper nickel because it is thicker than my bronze indian heads.
Anyone know how to tell the difference? any help would be appreciated.

How does it read on your detector compared to a bronze IH?

This wasnt a dug coin and I dont have a detector

Do you have access to a scale? A copper-nickel IH cent is listed as 4.67 grams. The bronze IH cent is listed as 3.11 grams.

Forget all that was mentioned above...

Theres a reason the copper nickle versions are nicknamed "Fatties"

They are usually about twice as thick as normal cents.

He's already mentioned that it was thicker than a bronze IH cent. Apparently, he was looking for more verification. I'm sorry I tried to help. :BangHead:
