Was on the way to a buddy's house to head up to Central City, when I drove by a parking lot scrape off. Picking him up, we went back to the site. They had peeled off the old asphalt, and were in the process of leveling the area to repave. The head foreman was gracious enough to allow us permission, and we hit the area. Buddy got the first strike, a badly corroded Indian Head cent. After walking over to look at it, I got a penny reading on the DFX. Thinking it was another penny, I was surprised to see that it was an old store token from Wisconsin, dated 1863. Only dug one other Civil War token, and that one was in really bad shape. The only other decent find was the spoon. Thought it was silver plate, but my bud knew it was sterling. Came home and cleaned it up, and he was correct. Drove by today, and it's already paved. That was one real tight window of opportunity.
Enjoy,
Carl
