I love finding CW relics in Mass!

Was cleaning up yesteray and ran across a lead doohickey I'd found a few months back. Washed it up and starting back at me--with a bit of peeking under the edges--was HOTCHKISS, 3 IN, JAN 7, 1862, PATENT. At that point I still didn't know what I had but I thought the age of it was pretty cool. I was actually wondering if it was the base of a bottle mold of some sort. But a bit of googling turned up that it's the base of a CW canister shot. Basically a giant, mean shotgun that shot 3/4" iron balls.

I see that a complete Hotchkiss canister shot can bring a pretty penny but wondered what this baby's worth by itself. I couldn't find any bases just for sale. Any ideas?

sweet find and very intact too -- yep a 3 in cannon that using the canister chucked out a mass of 3/4 in huge buck shot type balls ---it was deadly on charging men or cavalry -- cut a path run thru them -- a real nasty anti personal shell of the civil war

this one was most likely a practice round used by the Union cannon troops for training -- no CW battles in mass that I know off.
