I went out to find a new site today that shows up on an 1859 map. I have been wanting to find it for a couple years but have been unable to. After an hour of walking I finally found it. There is very little on the surface other than a little glass and pottery. The 1865 button was in poor shape and looks like it had something welded to it, button shank maybe? The 1867 IHP was in very good shape and looks like it was almost uncirculated when it was dropped. The flower thing is lead, maybe drawer pull? I am not sure what the brass thing was. It looks like it had something iron attached at each end.

Love the button....there seems to be plenty of detail on it....civil war period?....and the Indian head is in great condition.... I'm a novice at this so I'll ask...how do you locate maps that show where old houses once stood? Thanks for sharing?

For a dug indian that thing is pristine and the later 1860s and 1870s indians are tough to find, nice going!

The maps I have been using are online. The Library of Congress website has some maps that you can view for free. Old plat maps will have dots or squares where structures were located. I usually compare the location to the roads and then find them on a modern satellite map since the roads usually do not change much if it is an undeveloped area.
