On the coldest day since March of last year here in N.J. got the detector out of my shed for a few minutes to sweep yet once again part of my yard. Did about a 20 square foot section and out popped what I thought first was an old button. After a little brushing off saw the word EDWARD on one side so thought I might have an old English coin. A little more cleaning and saw the word BELL and a date of 1860 on the other side. Turned out to be an 1860 JOHN BELL-EDWARD EVERETT presidential campaign token. It originally had a ferrotype image of both men on the token. This is the first time I have ever seen one. Also found part of an old silver plate spoon with the initial W which I believe references the ONEIDA CO. circa early 1900s. 004.JPG005.JPG012.JPGlf.jpgee.jpgIMG_0014.jpg

Congrats, I can only imagine that there may be a bottle cap from the 40's or 50's in my yard, and that's a definite maybe.

That's a great token. If only my house were 140 yrs. older I might have a shot at something like that in my yard!

Cool yard recovery.

That's great for being in your yard. I got lucky in my fairly small yard. I got a 1870 Newfoundland five cent,Nova Scotia 1832 half penny,1911 Canada large cent and my father in laws lost wedding ring that I didn't even know he lost a few years earlier. I returned it obviously! But barely! Haha

That's an excellant find!
I would love to find one of those!

Very cool find. I recovered a Joseph Lane one last year.

It has certainly been a learning experience finding all of the historical items in and around my own yard since my wife got me the metal detector two years ago for Christmas. This year she got me a drone. The possibilities are now endless! lol Here is a picture of me next to the spot where I found the token in my yard taken from my drone up above. Also a picture of my drone hovering in place.003.JPG015.JPG
