This was my first visit to this site, which used to be on the outer edge of the village in the 1800's. First day in the field with the DFX running 15KHz only. I thought it was a wheatie when I got it out from some small rocks. Looks like I dinged the Reverse with the Lesche, ack.. After a spit bath, I saw that Birdie Flying Sideways and that was a thrill!
I don't yet know which of the 3 varieties of 1858 cent it is. Sorry about the pics. I took much better ones before I realized the camera's mem wafer was still in the computer dock. I had put the coin into olive oil & had to dry it off. It's a nice dark brown, looked wheatie-color when it came up.

Yours is the large letter variety. The am in america are touching...
SWEET COIN!!!! AND GOOD LUCK IN YOUR FUTURE HUNTS THERE!!

Thanks very much for the info, I didn't see that in the Red Book.

This is my oldest-ever coin. 1864 2-cent piece (Large Motto) last year, 1871-H Canadian dime 2 months ago, and now this one. It's good to live in a village that has a ton of historic houses still around. I envy you your location. Ohio was settled earlier than Michigan and was "high-traffic".

Yea,but in 12 yrs of hunting i have found one really worn and a guy hunting with me at another site found one,but it was pretty beat up too....
Keep up the streak!!!

Excellent Flying Eagle Penny!

Congratulations!
