1857 Seated Half Dime, a Nice Company "C" Insignia and More

Here are my most recent finds from my button field. I thought I damaged the half dime during excavation, but upon closer examination, the damage already existed.

So, four more buttons, my first US silver from the site, yet another watch winder, another thimble and a Company C Kepi pin.

The floral button was very deep and barely gave a whisper. It is a cast eye pewter button. You can see the mold seams on the back. These types of button range from the 17th to the mid 18th century.

Any ideas on the letter C? Military?

Above is a Company letter “ C” excavated from a Federal regimental camp at Hilton Head, South Carolina. The letters were worn on the soldier’s kepi (hat) along with the regimental number and the insignia for the branch of service. Approximately one inch tall...

Thanks for the update. I was thinking cap pin. Mine is slightly different. Most of the finds in the field are pre 1850. The coin is unusually modern for the site.

Ahhh, I "C" now what that is!

So this means there might be a number out there that went with it?

Sweet digs bro!

Silver is nice, but the company letter is the star find of the hunt. Well done.
