It's been months since I have posted... months since I have dug actually. I had a weekend off, so I decided to hit the G.A.R field where I have been a few times previously. There was a GAR meeting place in this field, and I have dug several pieces of period sabre belts.
My first signal today was a repeatable +45 VDI, and out comes this beauty!! This is my first seated coin, my first half dime, and my oldest coin to date. Unfortunately it started to pour shortly after I found it, so I had to call it a day. I will hopefully make it back tomorrow to hit it again.
A few questions: Is there a way to carefully clean the black crud off without hurting the coin? And the crack on the obvserse looks more like a die crack than a gouge from my shovel. I would have expected it to be "shiny" if it was a new scratch. What do you guys think?
Cheers!
