Hello again everyone and Happy Holidays. Had a great hunt yesterday. It was 55 degrees aka t-shirt weather in Wisconsin. My friend OFLSHAGS got us a new permission while door knocking. It's a wooded area between a river and a mid 1800s house. Turns out the site had a mill there that was abandoned around 1890 according to one of the neighbors. That part was unknown to us at the time. So now we have premission to both sides of the street along the river. Woohoo!
Anyways SHAGS was texting me non stop with a ton of period correct relics. Wait for his post to see what I'm talking about. Thankfully I got out of work early and went straight to the site. My first good target was this fancy, Gold plated pocket watch bezel. A first for me. Man I wish I could have seen it in it's prime.
A little while later, I snagged another first. A Good for 5 cents drink token. I've never had a token this old and this one is counter stamped on top of that. It says GLADYS, there is a 1 stamped over the 5 and AL below that. That detail came out after I cleaned it, along with the red paint in the letters. Tony's Tavern no longer exists, sadly there is a Taco Bell where it once stood. Very happy to finally have a octagonal token.
The first coin to come up was another first for me and my favorite find of the day. Had a SCREAMING 34-36 signal on the Nox. Thought it was going to be junk honestly. Popped the plug and saw a big green disk roll to the bottom. This is my 4th large cent in the last few weeks and thought I knew what it was going to be. To my surprise, It was a 1857 Bank Of Upper Canada One Half Penny Bank Token! In really good shape to top it off minus the square nail hole.
All I did to clean it was a light soak in olive oil with some light scraping with a toothpick. I'm very pleased with the results and will leave it alone. Here is everthing togther.
I'm glad to have another large permission that will keep us busy for a long time. Today it is 16 degrees out, of course, but warmer weather this upcoming weekend. Hope to get in a few more hunts to keep you entertained this year. Thanks for looking. Hope you all have a safe and have a Happy Holiday Weekend!
