Hey guys I was recently detecting an 1846 slate mine/cave near my house and I found a few things but this one really stuck out. I know it's not a real 1856 due to its size so would it just be a modern day replica or were these produced for certain purposes? I tried looking it up but found nothing. It's 3" in diameter. Thanks for your help!

Wow that really had me excited for you when I first saw the picture, i didn't notice the Lincoln cent and hadn't read about it. If you had found a real 1856 flying Eagle in that kind of condition it would be worth $10,000 or more. To answer your question they sell them in souvenir shops for kids.

Yeah I got excited too because I saw that they sell for very high but knew it was too big to be real. But didn't know it it was some type of commemorative coin or anything. Thanks for your input, maybe next time I'll find the real thing lol.

Wow never seen anything like it, to bad it wasn't the real thing...

Ironically, I found the 1916 D Mercury Dime, yesterday. Same size (3 inches) and everything. LOL Oh well. Hope you find the real thing one day!!

The large 3" coins made are" Drink Coasters "

it amazes me how many of those large novelty coins are dug and posted here

So cool, I love it!
