so Question? How deep were you getting your signal at? and I Noticed not many cheaper machine's coming upo with finds like that. My oldest is a couple of Indian Heads found at an old school in the northwoods.

NICE LC! Clean that puppy up! Lots of detail left on that one. Would like to see it after it's been cleaned. Congrats........Hogge :headbang: Under further inspection.....it looks like there is something odd with the date. Maybe it will look different after the crud is off. Could be the 51/over 81 Variety.

My detector was telling me it was at 8" deep. Coin was at approx 6"-8". VDI #'s bounced around, but tones were consistant.

Any suggestions on how to clean it? I have only used some mild soap and water. Some of the coin has some small "flakes" come off on the edges so I have been careful when it is handeled.

Those small flakes are dirt that used to be part of the coin. Not much you can do about it. The preferred method for cleaning large coppers is a hydrogen peroxide bath. Here is a link with detailed instructions. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,165857.0.html

congrats on a nice large cent, I wouldnt clean it probaly wouldnt help it. Nice find now you will start finding them all the time. hh!
 

I have pretty good luck with soaking in Windex. Then use a soft toothbrush. good luck

This is the ONLY method I use to clean my old coppers. :thumbsup:
