Excellent! Hope you find many more (some people never find them)! :P

I can see the braided hair, but is this the same thing as a large cent? JIM

Hey, Earthworks, where'd you find it? and how deep was it? Congratulations. It looks like it's in good condition!

I guess I would call it a large cent. It was minted between 1840 to 1857. weight is 10.8900g.
Found at about 6 inch's down at a old stage coach stop.

Very nice!!!
I have personally only seen three of them in my life time.
I have an 1852 that my cousin gave me, he has found three of them, the only ones I have ever seen... ;D
Good luck & Happy hunting~

I want an old coin..... :'( I've been working so hard at it, giving up all my MD'ing time for it, and still no old coin) :'( If you're feeling sorry for me yet you can send that beauty along to: CO2, P O Box 1111, Not Findin' Old Coins, Colorado 80513 ;D I feel better already. Sweet Coin EW....Many more to you~CO2

Hi,
I like how you describe your find as "my first 1851 coin", as if you will likely find your second (joke). Great job, I have never found a coin older than 1910 and I have searched parks, schools, cemeteries and churches. Keep huntin'!
