1850s Bling Bling?? Can Anyone Help With This Shield Looking Thing?

Hello Everyone, This was found today at an 1850s house site. It looks to me to be 1850 Bling Bling . Does anyone know what this thing may be? The nickle was also found today but is there for size. Thanks and HH!

looks like a police dog badge
I have seen these befor but shaped different,

It does look like a dog chain.
The 3 holes make it look like it may have been an escutcheon that surrounded a door or cabinet type lock. hmmmmm.....
