Seated Half WOW!!! I just got my first Seated dime and nearly lost my mind can’t imagine a Seated Half. Congratulations on that beauty. One day my time will come.

P.S. Same thing happened to me 2 years I found a period 1875 Seated dime. Although I still thought it was cool as hell I obsessed about a real one for the next two years and finally got it 3 weeks ago. Now Quarter and Half I wonder how long that will take.

Congrats!!! Beautiful coin, love that eagle!

Fantastic coin, great hunting! :occasion14:

SUPERB COIN!!!

Congrats!

I'm also intrigued that TWO people on this thread seem to have found counterfeit Seated coins?? Really? How did you figure out that they were counterfeit?

Steve

Congratualtions! :occasion14:

Steve TNET members let me know something wasn’t right. Lol I was so green at the time I thought it was made of Aluminum. IMG_3125.JPGIMG_3126.JPG

Sent pictures to a coin counterfeit expert and here’s what he wrote back. “Period counterfeits were not made from Al. This one looks like a cast example using antimony. Antimony is quite brittle and these piece easily cracked. It is a contemporary piece which means made at roughly the same time as the date on the coin."

pretty darn awesome! congrats on a true bucket lister find!

Nice details left on it, careful how you clean it :occasion14:

Fascinating, truth...do you recall how it ID'd?

Steve

Thank you, everyone!!

Steve
I don't recall the exact numbers but I remember thinking it was a coin, and that the numbers varied a bit....I guess because it was about 7in down and on an angle.
Truth1253,
Counterfeiting was much more prevalent in the old days than it is today. When I found my counterfeit seated half I found a forum dedicated to counterfeit halves!
Thanks again everyone!

charlives -- I had no idea that counterfeits were more prevalent back then, and certainly didn't know there was a forum dedicated to counterfeit halves!

Fascinating!

Steve

Fantastic!! I've found one seated half and one seated dime in my whole detecting career. Going to Cape Code on vacation which is where I found the dime 5 years ago. Hope to add to my count.
