Found this just off the road that runs next to my 1830's site, not sure if it belongs in that time period or with the modern trash on the road. I cant imagine what it would have come from. It looks like it was welded together and maybe the spot of the weld suggests it was attached to something. it has two slots cut 80% of the way through the tube. the one end has been smashed somewhat. too big in diameter to be part of an arrow shaft, the brass seems to match the brass ive found on the flat buttons and flintlock parts but the cuts in the tube seem modern.

I failed to be clear when I say road I mean abandoned wagon road that runs through private property that was just recently cleared of brush so when I say modern trash I mean a couple broken arrow shafts, a few shotgun brass and other modern things I cant remember related to use as a natural path through the woods.

I can definitely believe that, ive never heard of one before so I googled it, my only hang up is all of those pins seem small, what would such a big pin come off of?

They come in many sizes and are also referred to or used as a linchpin.
