Hi Everyone,

Even after last night's soaking rain, I decided to go out to the site I've been hunting for nearly 5 weeks.
This is the same site that produced a 1778 Spanish Half Reale and many other goodies.

I never thought I would top that half reale, but now I'm not so sure.

This rang in on my White's Eagle II SL 90 as a strong 85 VDI. It hit and held at 85.
It was at a depth of 5 1/2 inches.

After popping the (muddy) plug, I could see the silver rim peaking out of that gray Indiana clay.

I just about died when I saw the date & detail.

This is, without a doubt, my sharpest old coin.

I'm still trembling.

Opinions on Grade/Value?

Thanks!

AMAZING FIND!!! Between this and the Half Reale, I'd have to say this Capped Bust is my favorite, She is beautiful!!

huh how did i miss this one? great job!

Congrats on your great find!
Nice pics and good move to resist further cleaning.
Grade to me appears to be between F and VF based upon wear on the clasp at shoulder. IMO, closer to VF but compare to some pics of PCGS, NGC or ANACS graded capped bust on ebay.
Value is subjective and that old obverse scratch might detract. These are not as valuable as you might think because so many have survived. They were primarily used in banking and not so much in circulation. The coin is not rare but IMO, it is rare to find one that was lost in circulation - if that makes sense to you.
Congrats again and thanks for posting it!

Wow your onto some good hunting land there.

I could send you a fat crispy 20 dollar bill for that stupid ole coin. You probably dont want that dirty ole relic anyway. Yuck!
What can you buy for fifty cents anyway.

Exciting find! I am jealous in that I haven’t found an early American coin in a time. In my most humble opinion….VF Details, Damaged.
