1825?? Need Help!!

I've been hitting this old farm very hard...it was originally settled in 1794. I have found about a million flat buttons, a few small buckles (none of importance), few old coins (1840's), button from rev war, and then today I found this. I thought it was an 1825 coppa or something but there is stuff on each side so it makes it hard for me to decide what it is. The back is almost completely unreadable. I thought it was copper but from where my digger or the plow hit it I don't think it is. Any suggestions or ideas? I have already cleaned it very lightly with water and a horse hair brush (thanks buckleboy) and a peroxide bath. I added a TON of pics to try and help.

Yep. Probably pewter. Excellent find! Certainly rarer than the real deal.

Take a pencil & paper & place it over the coin, turn pencil
side ways and rub the pencil across the paper to get a impression
to show up, like shadeing a picture...a impression will come thru
or use kids play-doh to come up w/ a impression then photograph
the impression & post it here on Tnet

The coin has already been ID'ed.  And I really Wouldn't do this with pewter--it will start to flake around the rim if that's what it's made of.  If you really want to see the coin, press it lightly into play-dough, clay, or putty. I would love to see a photo of the Rev. War button.

Me too. Many later buttons are mis-identified as Rev War, I hope you have the real deal. With the amount you dug you definitely deserve it.

I guess they tried to whittle as much as the could to counterfeit another or something. Having the reeded edge kept them from going to the edges. Maybe this is why they look so worn most of the time. It was definitely about to be cut up though.

I have a large British silver with many cuts like that through it and no doubt was on the chopping block or supose to be.

My 1777 8 reale looks like it was in a fire. One side is near completely melted.

Kyle, I only have this pic on file so can post it. The other side is Geo. III. I had just set off on a trip with a couple friends. We were meeting 2 more about 3 hours away and had time to kill so stopped at a field a friend had in mind. Left the main site and dug a ball button, it slowed me down and a few feet away out popped this. Didn't know what the hell it was. , but very happy to find it. 1812 Geo. III 3 Shilling.
