Well.. I started off hunting a CW camp that we pounded for years... nothing but a few scraps of lead.. and then I ran into one of the owners.. he gave me permission to hunt his Mom's house.. late 1700s soo.. I was off.. Great old house... close to an old mill site.. looked like a prime spot for lots of coppers!!! Well... after digging over 50 .30 carbine shells.. .32 pistol shells and a bunch of .30-06... I just stopped digging anything under 50 or so... in addition to these coins.. I dug an old hand forged hinge.. and a nice iron lock with a big brass keyhole.. the barber was about 5 inches.. and the French coin only about 2!! it was close to the stone porch steps so it might be "newer" and someone was wearing it.. it almost looks like it has been polished. Also dug a few wheaties.. and other odds and ends.. no copper.. and no buttons.. but I have 4/5s of the yard left to hunt...

All and All.. a pretty good week!!!

Thanks!! "I'm in my prime..".. the sad thing is.. the first field I went to.. was the first virgin camp we broke... I was walking endlessly with almost no signals remembering the days when I would have to take a break and go dump out my butt pack because it was so full it was pulling down my shorts!!! Days of digging 200+ bullets.. and a plate or two.. heck.. I even eyesballed a Eagle Plate on top of the grounf before I swung the coil over it!!! Good days!!

I'm off tomorrow.. Drs appointment in the Am sooo with some luck and hard hunting I'll have a copper or two this time tomorrow night! Year is coming to an end fast and I only have 9 coppers and 5 or 6 good silvers to show for it!!! AND only one Eagle plate!!! Yeah.. I know.. boo hoo!!! ;-)

Nice finds MB,

That 1825 is a killer coin to find in the states.

Thanks!! I'm thinking someone was wearing it... or a pocket piece.. something like that.. it was shallow and close to the porch/steps of the house..

Nice finds!
Good luck there as that site looks like it has a lot of potential.
Might as well save all that brass. I think the scrap value is around
0.92 cents per lb.

Well.. my digging buddy and I went back to the this site yesterday... had covered only a small part... and man.. odd place!! I dug a 1969 at 8+" and tons of new change 5" to 6" deep... a few wheats came out.. and one IH.. but no old coins... no buttons.. but plenty of shells!!! The ground is really soft.. so I think the freeze cycle "pulls" everything deep. it has not had fill added.. well.. not in at least 35 years... strange place..

You dig the bestest stuff, Mark. I bet that French coin surprised you, eh?

Ha.. and to prove how much of a moron I am.. my first thought was.. "huh... must be one of them there new quarters".. till I saw the date!! ;-)

Actually.. I was pretty surprised... having dug nothing but casings and pulltabs.. funny how those two always seem to be littering the same spots.. ;-)
