Buddy found a nice old homesite cellar hole. 1870ish beers map was the lead for the old homestead buried in the woods. Spent 5 hours or so. Buddy got an 57 flying eagle and 64 2 center. I got an 1822 LC. Camera is down so sorry no pics. My question for you copper experts is what the heck is the difference between all the varieties of the 1822 LC? Coin isn't really clean enough to see much detail although it appears that there may be quite a bit there. Trying with mild soap and water and oo with a very soft toothbrush and it's getting there. It has some green patina but most of it appears to have been gone long ago (I love that dark green color). I've looked at the pcgs site and see almost no difference in any of the "Newcomb" Varieties...especially the one that is really worn. I don't quite get it and any help would be appreciated.

There are some very easy to see differences in over half of the 14 varieties, based on how the date is spaced/located. On others there are differences in the position locations of the point of the wreath leaves in relation to the letters D S F and C. Of course there are also other differences too numerous to mention. That is why I have a nice large book that makes it much easier. :)

Right now there is too much dirt on it to see minute differences like that. Here's hoping mine is that Newcomb 14. If I can get my buddy to take a pic for me with his camera, I'll post it.
