Stopped by one of my favorite spots yesterday, pretty well hammered it hard a month ago. Still waiting for the plow ...corn stubble stinks. After an hour of digging a ton of iron, thought I'd think outside the box. Started swinging inside a hedge row with a stone wall, can slaw, shotgun shell, then I get the slamming signal!!! I could see it was holed so figured it was a coin? Put it in my pocket and started back to my truck thinking probably won't be able to read the date. Man was I shocked when I cleaned it up!! 1820!! That’s the crudest 2 I've ever seen: icon_thumleft:=ED

Sounds pretty cool, like to to see the pics though.

That is a cool find. Could it be a counterfeit?

I was about to say it looks like White Metal which was mostly used in large counterfeit coins. Notice how at the scratches it ceases to look silvery but more of a gray color. May make it even more interesting though.

what the heck is it? cool find.

Wow some can see pics ,some can't .1820 ...almost looks like it was in a (house) fire.=ED

Hi, your coin looks like a counterfeit to me as well but the coin it is meant to pass as is either a sixpence, shilling or halfcrown of king George IV. What is the diameter of the coin? A shilling should be about 23mm across. The design you have wasn't used on Shillings until 1821 but if it is a counterfeit that might not matter.

The diameter is 35mm

Then it would be a half crown. To bad it's not real, but not being real is probably why it was there to find, so can't really be too upset over it. It no doubt has a great story to it and if only there was a way to hear it.

Seen a few shilling counterfiets, this halfcrown I think is pretty rare. Good score!

Nice counterfeit specimen! I found a large counterfeit 1845 5 Francs once, looked similar to yours with the base metal showing through the plating.
