Neil, that is one neat find, a cool piece of history most likely War of 1812. I would think it is more a stamp for official documents of the Artillery Unit than a personal one, so perhaps some research looking for examples of such documents from that time frame to see if other US Shield seals appear on any paperwork. That wax seal just might be your best relic find for 2012.....

Your grouping of different military buttons reminds me of a site Wayne S has hunted in B. County that produced similar military buttons, think I posted one or two of his on What is it a few months back since they were "different" than the standard issues or at least one of them was.

Dug from the same site you would have to think they're connected. Sure makes a great pair.

That reminds me of a couple of finds Ironhorse and I dug several years back. He dug a Rev War Loyalist Royal Provincials button and I found a cufflink button with a soldier on it that said "British Volunteer."

It is an odd assortment for a field that should be more likely to produce finds from summer of 1778 when the British abandoned Philadelphia and camped out here. So far military buttons from circa 1812 including 2nd Reg Artillery, 3rd Reg Artillery and 15th Reg.
