1812 martingale from where?

found this martingale shield near 1812 hospital and barracks site near buffalo, new york. an antler handled knife was also found in the same area...does anyone know who this martingale represents thanks...

trying to figure out how to get the pics on, in the meantime its a shield with a star in it, measures about 4 inches both ways and has all 4 tabs on the back.
