Sorry for repost. Title should read "on" Chesapeake bay not "in". I think i just discovered what this is and it could be a fairly rare find. Krause catalog says a circle counterstamp on 1/4 cut 2 reales with the crenelated edge. The picture shown for the next denomination, an escalin, shows the scalloped edge! This is the same site I found another west indies cut coin on.

It's worthy of another post on it own. :icon_thumright:

That's a great find !!
The 1811 issues were minted consisted of 3 stampee, 1, 1½ and 2 escalins coins. The first two were made from quarters and thirds of 2 reales coins, while the higher two denominations were made from quarters and thirds of 4 reales coins. The 3 stampees was counterstamped with a crenelated circle, while the 1, 1½ and 2 escalins were counterstamped with one, two and three circles, respectively. So you have a 1 escalin coin--with one circular conterstamp without the crenelated edge around the circle.
Your coin may be rare--and valuable.

Thanks a lot for the help.

Very cool find.

That's a very unique find, and I love that scalloped edge. Never seen that before on a coin.

Awesome silver!
