On the night of August 9, 2013, Heritage Auctions sold what is known as the “King of American Coins” at their Platinum Night Sale prior to the ANA convention in Rosemont, IL. An "original" or Class I 1804 Silver Dollar, graded Proof-62 by PCGS realized a final price of $3,877,500 including buyer's premium. On the auction block was the Mickley specimen of one of the world's most famous coins, which has captivated collectors ever since the coins were first struck...in the 1830’s.

yea They would offer me $30.00

I believe most of the people that own coins like that are already wealthy or well known. Some Joe on the street would never get a premium like that? About like the Beverly Hillbillies movie, You know some oil company is not going to pay some hillbilly a billion dollars for oil on their property. They would have the county condemn the property run them off then the oil company would pay the city or county a few hundred million dollars. A poor man will never realize these kind of seller prices.
Recently in the news... some guy who had been evicted from his own land because he lived in his car on it went postal on the city counsel.... in the hills they simply would never see them again, it would not get that far...
