1803 dime button

This was found by a buddy of mine a couple of weeks ago. Any ideas on the value? I know as a coin it won't be much at all, but as a button we are wondering what the value might be.

That is just too cool. I too wish the shank was on the backside but its neat anyway.....
 

Nice find! I wonder if the person who converted the Dime into a button, had any idea as to how valuable the coin would be in the future??!! Based on the Obverse details (which appear to be Very Fine), if the coin had not been converted into and used as a button and the Reverse maintained a similar condition, that the coin would likely be worth over $3,000 now. That is more than a 30,000 percent increase in value!

Now THAT is something I've never seen. I have found two rings made out of quarters around where railroad section housing had been, but never a button like that, that was a Great find!
 

10c silver to make a button? Wonder how many buttons he could've bought:icon_scratch:
