I pulled this coin out of a yard I had permission to hunt. House is not that old, maybe built in the 20s. They didn't know exact year.
Been soaking in olive oil, a lot of corrosion and added sediment on it. Oldest coin I have found to date!!! Also pulled a 1919 wheatie and misc junk. Great day!
Hey Lori killer find! Just a suggestion here but maybe try mineral oil next time. It's a bit lighter and more pure and won't darken the coin as much. I've learned these little things through experience and anytime I feel that I might be able to help a fellow treasure hunter i do. Is that your first LC? I hope your next coin starts with 17
I just put it in the olive so I will try the mineral instead. Thanks for the tip! Last year I found my first, an 1846. It was about elbow deep and I pulled out two screws before pulling that. Great day!
What a nice surprise iat a relatively "new" house. Have you checked any older maps of the area? There may have been an earlier home on that site. You may have more surprises ahead of you. Good luck!
No I haven't terpfan but that's a great idea. It's an hour away, only been there twice, mainly to hunt the soybean fields but was able to detect the house too this time. I'll be back! Fields haven't given up much at all.
Nice LC and congrats on your oldest! I just found a draped bust yesterday on a long shot. What an exciting day for you and like Abe said, the next one will start with a 17
