Headed to the seaside today, Found another button right on the surface, same spot & circumstances that I found the NH Vol. Militia. Hoping it is a military, but maybe it's a blazer button. 26 MM, can't find it in the Ridgeway archives, and I'm still waiting for my Tice to arrive, so if anyone recognizes this, I'd love an ID.
shown in as found condition, should clean up as well as the NH button.
got a few whatsits, 2nd item maybe a shoe last?, a copper flatware handle, pewter handle, odd lead piece, lead heads/tails token, a tiny padlock, $2 Australia coin :icon_scratch:, loved that rush when shiny gold comes out of the mud.
A '46-s wheat in fine condition.
all in about an hour, so i was able to avoid frostbite.
Thanks for looking, & Best Digs to All!

Re: PP Button (is it military?) & Stuff

Super ID Eddy!
No doubt, an exact match.
Thanks to all who replied! many great leads!
have written Waterbury asking when they started producing this button.
Coincidentally, I spent the first 12 years of my life in Peabody Ma.
which is about 80 miles from where the button was found.
Thanks for your time & effort, & Best Digs to You, Herbie.

Here's a Pullmans Palace garment button. No match on this one

Pullman's does have a PP button, you just couldn't find it. It used to come up in one of the first Google searches but that was probably at least three of four years ago. That said I agree the ID posted below looks like a match.

PS... There's always a chance the website had it wrong, but there was definitely a PP button with no text because I ID'ed it as a match three times for people over the last 11 years. I just couldn't remember what it looked like with seeing the picture again.

Re: 1800s Peabody Police Button & Stuff

Thanks Ironpatch,
I got an idea :tongue3:
The city it was found in also begins with the letter 'P'
'SShh, it's a secret!'
Wonder if they used the peabody button because waterbury already had the dies.
would save $$ over an original production run.
Then again, the city it was found in was incorporated about 200 years before
peabody ma.
how the mind wanders.
good day all & HH

I think maybe the website just had it wrong because I'd swear that's the button they had on for a long time, but I wouldn't trust my memory a whole lot for something I'd see for about 1 minute, then not again for years. As long as you get the right ID in the end that's all that counts anyway.

Opinions wanted.
have cleaned button, peroxide, dental pick, & oil soak.
No plans on selling, should I have done this, or left as found?
thanks for looking,
