I vote in, but have no idea how to go about dating rings.

Thanks Icewing! We have several Colonial and Fur Trade era experts here on Tnet, and I'm sure one of them will help me out when they see the post. :occasion14:

Search 'Jesuit ring'. I saw a couple that are of a similar style from the fur trade era. Most have letters or a symbol on the top. Any markings visible on yours?

Terry, can you provide a picture of the front, to see if there's any inscription? I have found a master's archeologist thesis from Laval University on Jesuits trade rings, it's about 500 pages and 139 Mb acrobat file (pdf format). PM me if you want the link. There are a couple rings that look like yours, but not sure. The thesis is in french but I can translate the parts your find interesting. Maybe your ring is not in it, but I think you'll find it interesting still.

You can see where the tip of my digger hit the inside of it.

After speaking with two American history professors at Stokes Hall, Boston College, the ring is a Hudson's Bay Company trade ring, circa 1795-1800. Thanks to everyone that helped or looked! :occasion14:
