1800's Brass Wedgie

From a cellarhole that has produced mostly Civil War era coins and relics we have a solid brass wedge of some sorts. No markings that i can see, about an inch across. Any ideas or wag's appreciated! Thanks for looking

Bearing of some type.

thanks dcmatt and dg. I think you guys are right about it being some sort of bearing race.This may be only half? i guess if it were double in size it could have cradled a shaft.The grooves in it would indicate that something had worn in to it.
