Today I met up with Neal aka. Needleinhaystack at the honey hole. Wanted Neal to find some AG as I plucked some quality oldies from his spot. I hit 13 silver dimes and Neal hit 5 but he left earlier than I did. So here's my take 19 wheaties , 13 dimes, 1886 seated, 1907, 1907, 1912 barbers, 25, 35, 39,42, 43, 45, 45, chopped no date mercs and a 53 Rosie. Too bad my seated is also chopped :(

Neal popped 4 mercs and a Rosie, and theres an indian in there as well, don't know the dates. Here's his take:

Thanks, going back in the am :)

Thanks Chris, (seener53) It was a great hunt and I appreciate the invite. I owe you a hunt but I don't think I can top "The Honey Hole"

That location may qualify for "Honeyhole of the Year Award". Congratulations on a great year of silver.

Thanks Fred.

I wonder why so many are chopped? Lawn mower?

Lawn mowers don't cut coins, they just mangle them up. I have found a few like those in the past. Never figured out if it was for a reason or if some was bored and felt like cutting up dimes. Last one I found 2 peices of the same dime. Strangely, they have all been dimes I have found cut.

awesome hunt!! would love to get into one of those someday! congrats

It has to be a mower, probably in the 1940's. With technology back then stuff was built big and industrial. I still find modern clad coins that are cut on ball fields. All dimes and pennies, never got a cut quarter but a few mangled and bent ones. Found about a dozen or so cut dimes and a sterling ring this year and I tried gridding the surrounding 50 foot area and never found the
rest :(

I also found a bunch of cut wheaties so I don't think anyone was cutting up coins back then as they were really valuable. Pennies and dimes weigh between 2-3 grams so a passing mover will suck them up from the grass and into the blade.
