In the animal kingdom, stance and posture go further at times, than an actual fight.
Even animals got enough sense sometimes, to know when to back down from a larger/more powerful aggressor. Sometimes, the bluff works, sometimes you gotta back up the bluff.
For those animals that got no defense mechanisms, well...... they become lunch.

When someone is made aware, you will hurt them bad/take their life/are NOT afraid, they tend not to mess with you!
It's kinda a mutual respect thing, that BOTH KNOW, of the possible outcomes.
Not good to be a helpless victim, waiting to be eaten.

SC, not all of us are stuck on the Darwism mindset of "only the strong survive". But, we do understand it.
We are aware of "mutual cooperation" and that it is actually the sustenance for survival.
Unfortunately, way too many, have NOT gotten that joke yet! Hence, it may not be time to lay the arms aside, just yet.

I long for the day, when man will live in peace and harmony with each other and the animals.
That day ain't gonna be today though, I am sorry to say.

Not going to be in my grand kids life time either...

I grew up in late 60s and early 70s, got out of military in june 71, was into the love, peace, all live together in harmony mentality. Didn't take long to realize it will never happen.

There are evil people in the world, always has been always will be and they are going to want to take what isn't theirs, be it material things, freedoms or your life.

It is my job to protect and defend my family and myself and it always will be...

It never ceases to amaze me how two people can read the same words, and totally disagree with the intent and content! I tend to believe the facts as stated, and through years of reading on the subject have seen these figures and statements in other places. Besides citations were included as to the source of the statements, and that takes them beyond the realm of opinion.

I would also note to those who continue to try and constantly compare us to other country's take note , as an armed society we actually are a more civilized society, albight one with certain internal problems that need to be worked out.

worldtalker did a good job I posting this article, and more should be done to bring this opposing, but factual information to the forefront, and let it be read, and thought about by both sides. Good job....Gary
