A while back Markg in Pa and myself had dug bottles out of a bottle dump on the side of the Bushkill Creek in Easton Pa. Some nice bottles were gotten out of there.

Well last Wednesday I had to go scout a local team and had an hour to kill......I was going to hunt the opposite side of the bank because we bought the Sanborn fire maps for Easton and the maps of 1885 showed a Tobbogan run on that side of the creek.Well when I got there I looked back across the river and saw construction going on ( this hill side was falling in)..right where the bottle dump was.. and next to it a huge and I mean huge pile of dirt.....I knew the entire hump contained bottle shards, dirt and you name it piled aleast 55 feet in the air....and dirt from serious way back....this area is as old as it gets.........

I went up to the construction chief asked permission and his exact words were-"I don't care!"

Well I went around to the back side of the pile out of eye-sight and started detecting......there was lots of iron all over the place so I switched into coin mode only and within 2 minutes on a flat at the bottom of the pile I got a severe blast.......fumbled around grabbed what I thought was a big corroded washer...stuck it my pouch.....hunted some more.....got some okay junk stuff....had to go back to move my truck because they were bringingin cement trucks.......I kept pulling it out of my pouch to feel it because it shaped out perfectly as a coin....but it was extra thick.......well I cleaned it gently several ways and yes:

1794 Large Cent with the lettered edge: hundredth of a dollar very clear. It's the head of 1794 variety with the hook on the bottom. The face and back have some cemented corrosion but its still awe inspiring to have something in your hand from 1794...

I took over twenty pics in many different modes to get this picture...
The coin barely makes the first grade A-3 and it has a dent in the bottom...I love it just the same.

Very Very Nice!!! I'm so jealous! >:( We recently had a new church built on an empty lot near where I live. The lot has been empty forever and flat grass. The churches surrounding this lot are from the 1800's. They dug up and piled dirt 30 ft. high. I was foaming at the mouth to get over there before construction started, but do you think I could get there? Heck no! I was in a long arm cast and it was colder than crap. I lost out on a great opportunity! So I'm really glad you got to jump on that pile of yours and dig out a great coin! Congrats!

Happy Hunting,
Moon

That is the coin find of my dreams! I rate it just under a EF gold piece.

You have lived what many us hope to experience.

Hey Johny, that is one fantastic coin, and I believe it would rate a lot higher than an AG3. The detail is really clear. Congrats on a fantastic find...Lance

LOL just think about the last person to touch that coin before you. You both have something incommon. Gives me the chills. HH Burdie

Nice coin no matter what it looks like! you can read the date thats all that matters.....and the 1794's are not easy to find.....Congrats!!

I love it too, Johnny. :)

In my red book there are 5 varieties of 1794 large cents. Do you know which one this it?
