Was it in a air tight water proof container. That is a sweet coin.

That's a nice one! Don in SJ will be happy to see that :icon_thumright:

Thank you all, It certainly did not look like this when I dug it. It was crusted with dirt so I took a wire brush to it then put blue ribbon on it. As it soaks in more detail is appearing. 007.JPG009.JPG

That's in Fantastic condition! Bravo on that stellar recovery,

A wire brush you say.

Fantastic find, congrats! I'd be terrified to use a wire brush.

Wow, beautiful & interesting coin! I'd stopped clicking on copper cent finds, because due to my poor vision and most copper cents' very worn condtion, all I could usually see in people's posts was the coin's round shape, lol. Glad I didn't skip this one! Fascinating piece of history there. HH Andi

Super coin G....you were lucky with the wire brushing, save that for the rusty gate hinges :laughing7: there are much kinda ways for removing the crud. Nice Score Mate.

I've been using a soft-bristled tooth brush to some success, and I'm still nervous. But you can't argue with what you've done here. Nice job.

BTW, did you know the tooth brush was invented in south Jersey? If it were invented anywhere else it'd be called the teeth brush!!

North Jersey rules!! :laughing7:

I agree with ya Silver Searcher. I guess I just get impatient with trying to make the coppers look half decent. I have tried so many different methods tediously and half the time they aren't great to look at, so I started using the brush on them. Good thing it wasn't a rare one.
Thanks for all the comments.
