I've been doing a bit of hunting on a old road near the ocean but no luck finding anything besides junk. Should there be coins there.

Welcome to the TNET forum.Sounds like you should be looking at old maps of the place.Get a feel for where things used to be located,homes,blacksmith,general store,churches,shipyards,gathering places.A place that old should have some reference material available to you somewhere.I see your in Nova Scotia.What town you talking about? Which Island? A little more info. would help me to help you. You should be able to find something good,if you are looking in the "right" place/s.That's the key,knowing and researching the area you are hunting to give you the best possibility of finding something worthwhile.
BTW- are you sure what you have been finding is junk? Not relics of any type,that just look like junk to the untrained eye?
