1785 "BAR CENT"??? WHO CAN HELP ME???

Well here goes Nothing?? Is it Real or is it Memorex??

I don't see a mold seam, the "A" goes over "S" I believe this is good. The pics I posted should be good enough for the Experts out there to help. I've been going thru my coins that I've had since the 1970's & thought I had lost this GEM forever.
Please tell me I have an original, or at least a copy from 1862 & maybe the approx. value of the Original or the 1862 copy.

Several reproductions exist. John Bolen of Springfield, Massachusetts produced replica dies in 1862 and struck 65 examples in copper.

You guys were wonderful on my Chinese cash coin I recently posted, Thanks again.

Thanking you in advance for your replies....."BAR CENT"

I'm sure a few experts will chime in soon. If that is an original bar cent, you've got yourself a pretty valuable coin there. Good luck!!

Does not look like a geniune one, more like a cast copy. Besides looking like a cast copy with the rough surface appearance I also do not see what all genuine examples have; a small, thorn-like projection on the far right side of the bottom edge of the second bar from the top.

Sorry, wish it was a real one for you..........

Attached is a lightened photo of your reverse and a photo of a legit one, the thorny projection on your coin is not there, therefore it is a copy, also, notice the roughness of your coin, cast vs struck.

All genuine examples have a small, thorn-like projection on the far right side of the bottom edge of the second bar from the top

Re: 1785 "BAR CENT"??? WHO CAN HELP ME???

Ed Fedory had one of those Bar Cents pictured in one of his articles for W & E. Now that guy knows how to find the Colonial "stuff." :icon_sunny:

Sorry, buddy, about the bad news. You'll get a rare coin one of these days.

I don't know.
But I would give it another look> I gave the basic (maybe he has it turned upside down theory)
And here is what I see.
I wouldn't give up just yet.

Hmmm... I'd be interested in knowing the process of how the better counterfeits are made. How much of a roll does an actual coin play in the process.

I have to agree - the coin is very deeply "pitted" over most of its surface - this indicates "casting" and therefore indicates a poor "copy". Even the 1862 copies were struck pieces (not cast) and if not for a lack of the spur on the 2nd bar on the reverse - you'd never know the difference.

Still a cool find no matter :)
