Rulau's United States Tokens book lists a series of tokens like this, although I am not 100% certain your exact one is listed since he only pictures 7 examples of the 19 varieties he lists. He indicates they were made for the 1876 Centennial Exposition at Philadelphia, but believes they are from New York City. At least he thinks the company was from there. Typically items like this were given to visitors at the exhibit of the company at the fair. Some examples Rulau listed said "1 lb coffee" making me think they could be exchanged at a retailer for the company's coffee, but others have numerals (13, 15, 18, & 20) for which he offers no explanation. He does assign a value of about $15 to most of the series in Extra Fine condition.

Like many other tokens and medals, yours will need some serious numismatic research to get the "rest of the story".
