This came from a recent 1700's french colonial home site I have been working. I am 95% sure the date reads 1776 on the side with the 3 fleur de lis. The obverse says something in the fold unreadable (I am afraid to unfold it) and "Troile de astres". Well, "De Astres" is french for "of the stars" but I cannot figure out what "Troile" is......:icon_scratch: Maybe a name? ???

ANY help from the experts would be greatly appreciated!!!

HH everyone!

Edit-Thanks for pointing out the spelling mistakes. Fixed now.

I haven't found the exact to match but I think may read:

CON

TROLLE

DE

CASTRES

Castres is a town in France and they produced textiles there - my guess is this is a cloth seal but I don't know for certain.

You could write the owner of this site - he does have a couple of Castres seals listed but they don't match yours. They are from the 1670s though.

Bagseals.org - for all lovers of Sigillography and Sphragistics !

I think your right about the seals origin! I am going to have another look at it tonight and see if I can unfold the top.

Thanks for the response everyone
