Found this a a site that had other colonial finds. Pictures are not great but the fowled anchor and rope design match up to other buttons like it. The shank is missing.

Good one. I dug a fairly nice one 10 years ago. See quite a few Navy buttons turn up but not a whole lot of these. I've found a couple cuff size too.

Thanks. Are the cuff size ones just smaller or a slightly different shape also?

Nice find, man! 8-)

Thanks. I wish it was in better shape but I guess I'm lucky I can still make it out. In person you can see the anchor, rope and ring on top clearer than in the pictures. :)

Here's the one I dug. You might find another, one in nicer condition.

Man, that is one excellent, early military button.

Congrats,

That is a beauty. The one I have of 24mm is similar, straight top bar, "V" bottom, but has rope, like K1DDO's.

Good find, I managed only 2 in 6+ years, one this size, and a huge 33mm one.

That one is great. Good going!!! Did you do anything to help preserve it?

It's waxed, just to bring out the gilt. You don' have to worry about it, because I doubt you'll ever see a change. Pewter is the one you have to watch.
