1749 Inn Site SWEET Button / Possum Stew

[Indian Steve]

I went back to the 1749 Inn site today. I got some unknown iron, rosehead nails, very flattened large musket ball, lead, 1955 rabies tag and a sweet button. I just went out to check on our flying squirrels that visit the feeder every night and look who was stuck in the jar.

You are correct. It is a one half of a cuff link. Silver cuff links don't show up too often, nice find!

I had to take the jar down and pull him out by his tail. He was so fat he couldn't turn around in the jar. I have caught him in live traps 3 times in the last week. My daughter had one of her semi wild cats escape and we have been trying to catch it. Keep catching the possum, my dog and our other cats. My daughter says we have a possum problem. I say we have a ready supply of meat if hard times come!

Thanks for IDing the "button" as a cufflink. I have found cut Spanish silver, a few buckles, lots of musket balls and few other buttons at this site as well.

Nice 18th C linked SILVER button, most likely a cuff link but no reason it couldn't be the top collar type.

Thanks to All for the comments and information. Yes, possums do get rabies but this guy was very healthy. I've had this song stuck in my head all night. Enjoy!
